Frequently Asked Questions
What is an educational consultant?
There are many types of educational consultants. Some work with families to find a college for their child. Other consultants may have a certification in educational therapy and service students with special needs. L&M offers services for the early childhood and elementary years. If it is determined that your child needs special services, we can provide parents with the information of support groups or professionals to continue academic growth.
Aren’t you like a Sylvan or other tutoring franchise?
No. L&M’s main goal is to educate parents on school politics and mandated curriculum/services. We help parents obtain all school paperwork on their child and help assess how their child can continue to progress within the school environment. We may use our own assessments at times to verify scores and/or offer tutor services in addition to working with the school; the main goal being to eliminate the need for additional support as quickly as possible.
Can I just hire L&M for academic enrichment or support?
Absolutely! L&M provides confidential support to many families, whether it is during the school year or summer services. We only become involved with your child’s school upon parental permission.
What about the workshops L&M provides?
If you are a recreational director or PTO president, please contact us! We provide workshops to help parents determine if their child is ready for kindergarten, attributes to look for in a quality school, prepare for parent-teacher conferences, understand state mandated curriculum, and parent rights and responsibilities. The early childhood and elementary years are the most important years for parents to help establish a positive and solid educational foundation. It is beneficial for parents to become educated about school policies to insure their child is receiving the necessary academic services to build a strong foundation.
Are you hiring employees?

Can you tell me about the staff at L&M Educational Consultants?
All employees at L&M are certified teachers and have obtained at least one Master's Degree. The staff consists of retired teachers, teachers employed by the public school system and staff members continuing their education at the graduate level. The staff regularly attends professional training to remain current in the ever-changing educational standards and curriculum requirements. Staff members are encouraged to pursue research projects and become published in educational journals. All staff members also contribute to the educational articles published on L&M's website and local newspapers.
Can you tell me about homeschool support?
L&M advises parents during the decision-making process of home-schooling their child. Parents are consulted on the curriculum standards for the state of Connecticut and alternatives to home-schooling. Consultants at L&M provide an in-depth conversation regarding the pros and cons to home-schooling; leaving the final decision to the parents and child.

Can you explain the assessments you offer?
L&M provides assessments in literacy and math to children in kindergarten thru grade five. A parent may request their own private assessment be conducted to verify school scores or help plan lessons while home-schooling their child. Assessments may also be needed to help parents prepare for their child's PPT or assist in legal procedures. All assessments remain confidential and are not forwarded to the child's school without parental permission.

Parent's who are concerned about their preschooler may also contact L&M for a Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. This assessment is recommended a year before the child attends kindergarten. The assessment results will help all early childhood educators involved prepare individual goals for the child. Also, a follow-up assessment with-in a year will determine if growth has occurred or if special services may be needed. Although all assessments are confidential, it is highly recommended the results be shared with the kindergarten teacher to continue the spiral effect of learning.

Before tutoring is offered, parents are informed of state-mandated remedial services that must be provided to their child. Our commitment to educating parents is unparallel to other companies who charge for services already provided in the public school system.
